An abundance of Pink
Emily Blincoe was born and raised in Austin Texas. Now, as an adult, she travels the country documenting the places and things she sees through her photographs. she travels with her dog, a shepherd/retriever mix, named Eleanor. Eleanor is featured in a lot of her pictures. Emily Blincoe began taking photos at age 22 in her brother's basement. He taught her the basic ropes and she did the rest herself. She loved taking pictures from the start and what started as a fun hobby quickly became an active obsession which in the end, she devoted her life to.
Emily Blincoe takes portraits and arrangements, but I'm focusing on her arrangements. Emily's arrangements are very colorful and abstract. She uses lots of bold colors in the arrangements and she follows patterns in them too. There is a vast variety of items she uses in the arrangements: from flowers to everyday items like tooth brushes, she is very clever and creative with her work. I love these arrangements because of how pleasing they are to look at; they all have a pattern or theme thats very nice to look at and each picture brings a different feeling and meaning when you look at them.
Emily believes that beauty can be found in everything. She uses this principle in a lot of her work, she looks for the little things to make her pictures even more beautiful. She loves using color in her photos because she describes color as being a "constant in the ever changing world." She also describes these constants as being the elements that make photography so amazing because photography holds a place in time and creates memories which we can look back upon. she says her most meaningful and favorite pictures are the ones she has taken of her family.
Emily has influenced me in numerous ways. I love her work so much and she really demonstrates some cool ways of using different objects to create a beautiful pictures that have a wonderful balance. I love how she can make a really cool picture out of literally anything, this aspect of her work has taught me to appreciate simple, everyday objects in a whole new way. I've used colors in new ways that I never would have tried before seeing her work. Overall I have learned that anything, with a little time and effort, can be turned into a beautiful picture.
Although my pictures have similarities to Emily's, they also have many differences. For one thing, all my back rounds are a little bit different then hers. For the "bud to bloom" pictures, my back round is pink whereas Emily's is yellow, I also have less flowers because I had less room. For the Pictures with the fruit, my back round was a light blue instead of the grey emily has. For the "bank robbery" pictures my back round is basically the same color but I have way less lollipops because I didn't have that big of a piece of back round picture. Although my images are not exact replications of hers, I think its ok because I could never replicate an exact image. also, the fact that mine are different makes them unique.
My first image is the replication of Emily Blincoe's "bank robbery." when I look at this image i feel happy because who isn't happy when they see lollipops? but also it makes me think of being little because lollipops were something I loved as a little kid. The second picture is a replication of one of many fruit arrangements by Emily. This one reminds of summer because of all the fruit and flowers. It's also very satisfying to look at because of the way all the objects are arranged. The last picture is a replication of Emily's bud to bloom. this is my favorite picture I have taken this whole trimester. I love how it looks and how the flower colors are so bright. this picutre also makes me very happy and it also reminds me of summer.
